US President Donald Trump's term expires on January 20, but he tightened sanctions on Chinese company Huawei before that. Consistent with a report by the news agency Reuters, the US Department of Commerce has revoked US companies' licenses that were supplying various parts to Huawei.
The Commerce Department has hinted that requests from US companies to supply Huawei could also be rejected. US Commerce Department sources told the Associated Press that the department would continue to work with the agencies and implement a policy to protect US national security.
Since May 2019, the US government has blacklisted Huawei as a threat to national security, while US companies have been barred from doing business with Huawei.
As a result, Huawei lost its Google services license and affected its phone sales in various countries. US companies can only work with Huawei after obtaining a license from the Department of Commerce, but these licenses are non-existent.
Now eight such licenses have been revoked, which will further affect the manufacture of Huawei devices. According to the report, these companies have the option to appeal against the decision of the Commerce Department for 45 days. Even before the new decision, 150 license applications were awaiting approval.
For now, the newly elected US President Joe Biden's policy regarding Huawei is not clear, but his knowledge will be known only after taking office.
The Trump administration recently blacklisted Xiaomi, but the sanctions were not as severe as those of Huawei.
